French Roulette Wheel, Table and Layout

French Roulette Table

The French roulette game is a relatively new variation of the roulette game that was introduced in the mid 1900’s. The Grand Monte Carlo casino was the first casino to offer French Roulette.

Even though the overall rules of the game are the same as the other roulette types, there are a few differences such as the table layout, the odds and an added rule called La Partage Rule.

French Roulette Layout

The layout of the French roulette game is very different in comparison to both European and American roulette. The side bets (outside bets) are split in two and are positioned in a way that surrounds the inner section in both the left and the right side. Each betting area has its French name and sometimes the English translation of the name is underneath the French name.

Pair: even numbers
Impair: odd numbers
Manqué: the low numbers 1-18
Passé: the high numbers 19-36
P-12 (Premiere 12): the first dozen (1-12)
M-12 (Moyenne 12): the middle dozen (13-24)
D-12 (Derniere 12): the last dozen (25-36)

For all the Even bets the La Partage rule applies. There is no documentation as to how this variant of the game was invented, however it is believed that this rule came about due to the quarrelling of the French players of the unfairness of the game stating that the game was giving an advantage to the house. This rule applies when a player has placed a wager on even money bet and the ball has landed on zero. Instead of the player losing his entire bet as per the European and American rules, the player loses half his bet.

On the inner section (inside betting area) -similar to the European roulette - there is only a single zero which it is located at the top of the grid, unlike the American roulette table that has both single and double zero.

Usually the background color of all the numbers in the inside area of the table in French roulette is the same as the color of the felt, whereas in American and European roulette the background color used besides single and double zero is red and black.
